Botswana Butchery is one of Queenstown’s best restaurants. They have 2 locations in New Zealand. One is in Auckland and the other is Queenstown. It is so popular that Oprah was here at this location a month ago. When in New Zealand, its a good idea to try lamb here as they are known to cook it properly. Botswana Butchery serves some of the best meats in the area.
You enter the restaurant with a meat cleaver for a door handle.
There are beautiful views of Lake Wakatipu and the mountains from here. They have a beautiful patio with a large wood fire.
Their wine selection is pretty fantastic.
The restaurant has 2 levels. There are private rooms like this upstairs for events and functions.

I shared the lamb for 2 people. It was a huge portion and much more than 2 of us could eat. The meat was so juicy and perfectly salted. The jus on the side was so flavourful. The mint jelly was so refreshing and unlike any other I have ever tried. It was nice to see it look so real and green with pieces of real mint in it. This was easily the best lamb I have ever eaten. It fell right off the bone.
The filet mignon steak was wrapped in bacon. It also came with a delicious sauce. The meat was so artfully presented on the plate. It was cooked to a perfect medium.
I loved my side selection of the baby Cos salad with pancetta, Parmesan and Ranch dressing. It was the perfect combination of flavours. The lettuces were so tender.
The seasonal vegetables were delicious because they were cooked with plenty of butter. We also had the mashed potatoes and they were creamy and very smooth.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere here. The food was top notch but it was not an uptight or pretentious restaurant. We came for lunch and were dressed quite casually which was nice after such a large meal. For dinner, reservations are highly recommended. It is a little more on the expensive side but its a very special meal. I thought it was more than worth it.
