Cartems Donuterie helped to fuel the artisan donut trend in Vancouver. They have come a long way from their humble location on Hastings Street. That location has since been shut down and they now have 3 store fronts throughout Vancouver (downtown, Kits & Main Street). This post is about the downtown Vancouver location on West Pender Street. They have been cranking out amazing dougnuts since approximately 2011.
They use as many local ingredients as possible such as their butter and milk. My favourite creations are their berry filled dougnuts in the summer time. They are so fresh and unforgettably delicious. They have vegan options too. Just ask, their staff are so friendly!
I got a dozen doughnuts to share. There is space in this location to sit and enjoy your doughnuts with a drink. I really like the atmosphere here.
Some of my selections were the London Fog stuffie, chocolate toffee, salted caramel, triple chocolate and the classic. The London Fog stuffie is very popular. They are able to capture the true flavour of Earl Grey tea to infuse into a cream stuffing. It makes for a comforting, creative doughnut. One of my favourite things about Cartems is that their treats are never greasy.
The gourmet doughnut movement may have just started a few years ago in Vancouver but they have always been a favourite treat of mine. More so than cupcakes but that is my own personal taste. Cartems doughnuts are a splurge ($36/dozen). Their flavours, creations and quality are unmatched. These little beauties are definitely worth it. I always look forward to when I can indulge in their doughnuts.
