Bella Gelateria is Vancouver’s ever popular spot for gelato. Their gelato has won them international accolades. That’s a pretty big deal. That means they are making gelato that is on par and better than gelato in Italy, where gelato comes from. They have 2 locations in downtown Vancouver in Coal Harbour and Yaletown. The Coal Harbour location serves gelato and other treats only. The Yaletown restaurant serves a full menu as well as cocktails and has many gelato choices. This post is about their Yaletown Marina location.
This is the view of the marina from the Yaletown patio. It’s a very busy spot as its just off the Seawall in a great location. I love the patio here.
We started our meal with some drinks. The drink on the left is the Ivrea Seltz (non-alcoholic). Its a spin on an orange creamsicle with vanilla gelato (with lots of little black specs from the real vanilla) and orange juice. The drink on the right is the Aperol Spritz (alcoholic).
Nonna’s meatballs are made with locally produced meats. It’s a great appetizer and I liked how you ordered as many as you wanted. The meatballs had great taste and were seasoned nicely. I liked all the fresh parmesan shards on top with the basil. The tomato sauce had the right acidity and flavour as well.
The burrata is served on top of local tomatoes and marinated artichokes. It comes with their housemade focaccia bread. Burrata is a semisoft cheese. It can be made from cow’s milk or buffalo milk. It’s like mozzarella cheese but even better. It’s very rich, luxurious and creamy. I am a huge burrata fan. This appetizer was amazing.
Bella makes some incredible Neopolitan pizzas. They have a large wood fire oven to make this iconic Italian dish. My favourite here is the Quattro Fromaggi pizza. I get it every time. The use the best cheeses from Italy to make this pizza and it shows. Even though its loaded with cheese, there is zero grease on it. Its very decadent and delicious. I like to get a little fresh cracked pepper on top. The crust has the perfect chew.
Here is their wood fire oven. It looks very authentic. How cute that they got their name tiled into the top?
If you are dining in at the Yaletown location, you can order the gelato right to your table. Its very convenient. I didn’t know this the first time I ate here and ended up waiting in a line.
On the left is Radical Raspberry and Meyer Lemon Sorbet. On the right is Mint Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Belgian Brownie. All the flavours were delicious. Radical Raspberry was so delicious and fresh with a true raspberry taste. The Meyer Lemon was very tart and a perfect partner with the raspberry. The mint chocolate chip isn’t artificially green, as you can see. The Chocolate Brownie flavour was so good. The brownie chunks in it made it such a treat.
This is how their gelato serving area looks. Its such a beautiful presentation. I am always perplexed at how the staff known which flavours are where. I do not see any labels.
Here is the chocolate drizzle station.
Bella Gelateria also serves up other Italian desserts like cannolis and cakes made of their gelato.
Bella Gelateria is making the best gelato in town, hands down. Their high quality and incredible gelato has made them world famous. If you haven’t been to Bella, you need to give them a visit to be temporarily transported to Italy.
