The Sea to Sky Gondola travels up and down the Stawamus Chief Mountain and has been open for a few years now in Squamish. It’s located at the beginning of the town (if you are headed from Vancouver to Whistler). It’s Squamish’s latest adventure in eco-tourism. The Chief is one of the main peaks to hike in the area. The Sea to Sky Highway is known for having amazing views so its incredible to experience the surroundings approximately 900 meters above sea level.
The gondola ride takes about 10 minutes and is relatively smooth. Each gondola cart holds 8 people. This attraction is open all year long but hours can differ depending on the season. Do check their website (http://www.seatoskygondola.com) before your visit.
Once you reach the Summit, there is a large viewing deck to take in the spectacular Howe Sound. There are multiple view points, a suspension bridge and many dining options.
Here I am soaking in the scenery as I cross the suspension bridge.
In this picture, I am on the suspension bridge looking back at the Summit Lodge Viewing Deck. There was one viewing area I didn’t get to which was the Chief Overlook Viewing Platform. Its accessed by one of the trails at the top. Also, if you hike the Chief, you take the Gondola down.
The moon made an appearance while I was up here. Here it is seen through the mountain tops.
The sun was starting to set on the way down. This attraction definitely showcases some of BC’s iconic natural beauty. I highly recommend checking out this gondola at any time whether you are taking tourists here or as a day trip.
