Freshii (Broadway Tech Center location)

This was my first time to a Freshii location and I loved it! They have healthy offerings that include super foods like quinoa, kale & avocados in a fast food style setting. People still want convenient and fast options but I think they are craving some healthier choices. Freshii is one of the fastest growing franchises in North America. I was kindly invited by the owners of the Broadway Tech Center Freshii to try their menu. They also own the Station Square location just outside of Metrotown by the Superstore.

The menu was diverse and full of things I wanted to try.

This location is very bright, airy & spacious. There was lots of natural light pouring in as well as ample outdoor seating.

I liked this sign. Eat & energize. You definitely don’t feel energized after consuming unhealthy food.

We got some smoothies to start. On the left is the Powerhouse Smoothie. It had pineapple, mint, coconut milk & their frozen yogurt. It was very refreshing. On the right in their banana nut crunch smoothie. It was a more filling drink and I liked the texture the almonds & walnuts gave this smoothie. We also grabbed some bagged snacks to go. I like how Freshii recognizes even when you are trying to be healthy, its okay to indulge too. Everything in moderation.

Here is the full spread. We tried some bowls, wraps & salads.

One of the more popular items at Freshii is the Buddha bowl. Cabbage, green onions, carrots, broccoli, crispy wontons sit on top of rice noodles with a crazy addictive spicy peanut sauce. You can add falafel, chicken, steak or tofu to your dish. We added chicken to this bowl.

The Oaxaca bowl had delicious Mexican flavours. It had black beans, corn, kale, avocado, salsa fresca, beet slaw and a spicy yogurt sauce on top of brown rice. I found this bowl very filling. I get frustrated when I am eating healthy and feel hungry shortly after eating a meal.

The Baja burrito had Mexican flavours again with corn, avocado, green onions, romaine lettuce, salsa fresca with a cilantro lime vinaigrette wrapped up with quinoa. I love Mexican flavours so I found this burrito delicious. I really liked the salsa fresca in it so I think I would ask for more of it next time on top of the quinoa.

I really enjoyed the Market salad. I found it very earthy yet refreshing. The green apple slaw brought a great sweetness & brightness to the salad. The beet slaw gave it beautiful colour. I liked the choice of feta cheese. The honey dijon vinaigrette went well with the salad. It felt like a salad I would get in a restaurant as a first course.

The Metaboost salad introduced me to a combination of flavours I hadn’t had together before. The salad consisted of spinach, kale, field greens, edamame beans, mangoes, carrots, goat cheese and almonds. All of it was dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette. The flavours and textures went together very nicely. The goat cheese made the salad very creamy & luxurious.

Freshii also serves up frozen yogurt. You have your choice of 2 toppings. We got strawberries and mango on one and honey and almonds on the other. Please forgive my terrible picture but it was a beautiful July day and the dessert melted.

I really enjoyed my meal at Freshii. I had eaten a lot but didn’t feel overly full with how much I had. I liked the combination of flavours they are experimenting with. I appreciate how Freshi is in making fast food healthy and fun.
