Earnest Ice Cream, in my opinion, started the small batch artisanal ice cream trend in Vancouver. They have 2 shops in Vancouver. One in the Kensington area and the other in the Mount Pleasant area. This post is about the newer shop in the latter location.
Earnest Ice Cream started out as a modified bicycle with a portable freezer attached. They could be found at local farmers markets. It was started by friends who wanted to make ice cream also while being eco friendly. As well as scooping ice cream at both locations, you can purchase pints in glass jars. The jars can be returned for a $1 refund so they can use them again.
Their Mount Pleasant location is gorgeous. I love the cement counter base with their name stamped into it.
Here are some of the flavours of the day. You can also get sundaes or ice cream scooped into a locally made Cartem’s doughnut. Earnest offers vegan ice creams too.
I decided to stick with classic flavour choices this time so I went with mint chip and peanut butter chocolate chip. The mint chip has such a real mint flavour and it was so fresh. The peanut butter one was so smooth and creamy. Surprisingly, I really liked the combo of the mint and peanut butter together. The flavours complimented each other nicely.
Here are our ice cream choices together. My eating partner got the strawberry basil and the matcha green tea in a cone. I really liked both of her flavours too and the strawberry basil was particularly interesting. My all time favourite Earnest Ice Cream flavour is cardamom. They made it in their very early days (2013) when they were just starting out. I am always keeping an eye out for it in hopes they will bring it back. It was so creamy and delicious. I love anything with cardamom.
Earnest is a place where you can have classic ice cream and seasonal flavours. You can also experiment with unique flavour profiles. One can never go wrong with a visit to Earnest Ice Cream.
