John’s Place is an institution in the Victoria food scene. They have been open since 1984. John has done a great job at creating a homey feel to go with his comfort food. The atmosphere is eclectic and fun.
There is lots of sports memorabilia and I loved the jukebox!
They have been featured on my favourite show, You Gotta Eat Here.
The Polish scramble had perogies and sausage scrambled with eggs. It came with a side of toast and of course, sour cream, to finish this dish off. Totally unique to this place and I loved the combination of flavours, especially the green onion on top.
One of the most popular dishes here is the Belgian waffle with cream cheese syrup. I have such a bad sweet tooth so this syrup creation was right up my alley. It’s cream cheese and maple syrup, along with a few other ingredients, to have on your waffles. It’s decadent but deliciously unique. Luckily, I have the recipe for it in my You Gotta Eat Here book.
The only mistake I made at this place was not trying any of their desserts. I seriously wanted to try every single house made creation.
Most places, especially in Victoria for breakfast/brunch, don’t take reservations but John’s Place does. Make sure you call ahead especially if you are going with a bigger group. This meal was even better with the fabulous service we received. Everyone feels like family there. Awesome hospitality and food to match at John’s Place.
