Breakfast is one of my favorite meals of the day. I am usually looking forward to what my first meal will be. Yolk’s started out as a food truck and then moved on to opening up a restaurant on East Hastings & Clark. Just this week, they opened their second restaurant location on Broadway. They specialize in breakfast and are open til 3 pm most days. The food truck is still in operation and that’s where I initially fell in love with Yolk’s.
Be prepared to wait, especially if it’s a weekend but oh, so worth it.
Both of these beverages are made in house. Their chocolate milk uses high quality chocolate and tastes so incredible. It isn’t too sweet which is how processed chocolate milk usually tastes. The orange juice is fresh squeezed. I love OJ with my breakfast. I usually just have water as I would rather eat my calories than drink them but fresh squeezed OJ is always worth the splurge.
I like the concept of the menu at Yolk’s. There are some fixed menu items such as pancakes, waffles and then there is a create your own for the egg dishes. You choose your meat, how many eggs you want, hollandaise or cheese and whether you want it in a sandwich (gluten free option available) or on their lemon truffle hashbrowns. My egg creation went like this: two eggs, bacon, arugula, hollandaise and Okanagan goat cheese (they support local as much as possible) on hashbrowns. The eggs were perfectly runny to my liking. The hollandaise was so smooth and not heavy in the slightest. The hashbrowns were so light with the addition of lemon and so special with the truffle oil. There was lots of bacon too and I love arugula in everything. So fantastically good.
The French toast had maximum crunch factor. It was served with a heap of bacon and real Canadian maple syrup. I love the texture on this French toast. I don’t ever remember having it so crunchy and crispy before and now I don’t think I can eat it any other way. I need to go back here and try the pancakes and waffles as well. I wanted all the food that was coming out of the kitchen.
Yolk’s is one of Vancouver’s hottest spots for breakfast. I am happy to see them expand to their third location. It’s one of my favorite spots to start my day.
