Fort Langley is one of my favourite spots. It is such a cute and quaint little part of town. It used to be very quiet and sleepy but has seen a recent increase in townhouses, new homes and young families. There is lots of development happening in the town but there are many great things here already. There are quite a few independent shops so it’s one of a kind. Wendel’s Bookstore and Cafe is one of these great establishments.
Wendel’s has been on this corner in the heart of Fort Langley since 1997. They have lots of outdoor seating where people bring their dogs while they eat.
They are a bookstore and a full service cafe. I love the concept here. It is so cozy. Grab a new read or bring your own while you enjoy the fantastic eats.
Make sure you save some space for dessert. They have a huge selection of sweet treats. All are prepared on site with the exception of the gluten free desserts which are prepared in a separate facility. Wendel’s gluten free desserts are available in many grocery stores.
Breakfast at Wendel’s is so good. Pictured here is their Belgian waffle with lemon mascarpone cream & berries with an iced tea. Their avocado benny was luscious and the eggs were poached to my liking, soft. The potatoes had a delicious seasoning on them. The raspberry mint lemonade was very refreshing. Both drinks were made in house.
Their chai tea latte was packed with flavour and spice. I could taste the cardamom, ginger and cinnamon. This was honestly one of the best chai tea lattes I have ever had. I find sometimes in chai lattes that the spices get lost, but, not in this one.
The chicken and brie panini came with a field green salad. I chose honey dill as the dressing and I am so glad I did. So much herby flavour with the dill and not too sweet. It was like a Ranch dressing, but better. The brie was perfectly melted and the chicken was very moist. The panini also had tomatoes, fresh spinach, roasted red peppers, and a pesto mayo. Highly recommend this sandwich.
It was hard to choose from all their desserts but somehow I did. The coconut nanaimo bar was a nice change from the custard cream layer we are used to in these bars. I felt like the coconut almost lightened up the bar and cut back on the bar’s sweetness too. Which meant I could eat the whole thing!
I love Wendel’s for so many reasons. Amazing food in a place that is open for all meals of the day with a great atmosphere. If it’s busy and the line is long, do not be discouraged. It’s totally worth the wait.
